Connect GMG OpenColor to GMG ColorServer
Welcome to this tutorial. In GMG OpenColor, you can easily create separation profiles and spot color libraries for your specific print production process. GMG OpenColor's prediction engine gets the most out of each specific printing substrate, ink set, and printing technology. With color management resources shared over the network, you will not need to switch between computers and manually transfer profiles anymore. You will be able to simply access your GMG OpenColor separation projects from the resource management in GMG ColorServer.

To be able to use your GMG OpenColor resources in GMG ColorServer, you will need the following in GMG OpenColor:
- Enabled connectivity to GMG ColorServer. To make sure that you will be able to connect, expand the Options menu in the upper right corner, navigate to Interface, and click GMG ColorServer.

If you do not see the GMG ColorServer menu item, you most likely do not have a valid license for the OpenColor Separation option. Without this license, you will neither be able to calculate separation profiles, nor to connect to GMG ColorServer. In this case, please contact your local sales partner or the GMG order team.
- Published separation profile with CMYK output color space in GMG OpenColor. To check, double-click a suitable project and click the Separation tabbed page. Check that the target color space is only CMYK and that there is at least one published profile.
You are ready to connect!
GMG ColorServer needs an open port to connect to the computer where GMG OpenColor is installed.
- On the computer where the GMG OpenColor application is installed, open the Firewall & network protection settings of the Windows operating system.
- Navigate to Advanced settings.
The Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security window is opened.
- In the tree view on the left side, click Inbound Rules.
- On the Actions pane on the right, click New Rule.
The Rule Type window is opened.
- Select Port and click the Next button.
- Select Specific local ports and enter 8080 for the port.
- Click the Next button and keep the default settings until the Name step.
- Enter a Name, for example, "OpenColor Web Interface" and click Finish.
The new rule will appear in the Inbound Rules list.

Next, you need to tell the GMG ColorServer server where GMG OpenColor is.
- On the computer where the GMG ColorServer server is installed, start the GMG ColorServer Configurator application. (The Server Configuration tabbed page will not be available on a computer where only a worker or hotfolder service is running, but not the server.)
- On the Server Configuration tabbed page, scroll to the OpenColor group and enter the IP address and port number of the computer where GMG OpenColor is installed. If GMG OpenColor is installed on the same computer as GMG ColorServer, enter the Host address "http://localhost:8080".
- Restart the ColorServer Service. (The application will ask you to do so now. You can also do this from the Services window from the operating system or from the corresponding icon in the Windows taskbar later.)

Check that the connection works and learn where you can find your GMG OpenColor projects.
- Make sure the GMG OpenColor application is running and make sure the ColorServer Service has already restarted.
- Start the GMG ColorServer client application.
- Check the status bar in the lower right corner of the main window.
It should show the OpenColor host address.
- Click the Resources tabbed page. In the navigation pane on the left, click OpenColor Projects.
You will see all GMG OpenColor projects with a published separation profile. (As you cannot use proof profiles in GMG ColorServer, the application will not show any projects without a published separation profile.)

You are ready to go! Import a spot color library or a separation profile from GMG OpenColor and use it in a manual job or hotfolder.
